Deconstructing Sundance

Project Title: Deconstructing Sundance
Status: Online, 2006 predictions finalized
Website URL: www.deconstructingSundance.com
Abstract: A project using Bayesian statistical techniques to predict the winners and losers of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Bayesian statistics are widely used in anti-spam filter technology, however they can be used for a wide range of other classification tasks, as this project demonstrated. We successfully identified the films that won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for both the Dramatic and Documentary competitions. The predictions also generally tracked the "buzz" the films reviewed after they were screened.
